Jose Mourinho is poised to make Stoke City’s Lee Grant his third signing of the summer. The former England U21 player Grant, made just three Premier League appearances for relegated Stoke last term, playing back-up to Jack Butland. Despite this, the Daily Telegraph says Manchester United are set to bring Grant to Old Trafford where he will be the club’s new number three behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero.
The veteran goalkeeper’s move to the Theatre of Dreams hinges on Joel Pereira, the Portugal U21 shot-stopper, going out on loan once again to develop. In stints at Derby County, Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday Lee Grant has amassed more than 500 appearances and earned a man of the match award against Manchester United at Old Trafford two years ago.
The 35-year-old will join the Red Devils as a free agent and likely sign a one-year deal. While he may never play for the Red Devils, it is another area that Jose Mourinho wants to be resolved sooner rather than later.
Portuguese specialist, who faced criticism from a section of the fan-base last season, has already completed deals for Brazilian midfielder Fred and young full-back Diogo Dalot.
