Antonio Conte set to launch £42m bid for 26-year-old AS Roma star

According to the Greek media outlets, Chelsea are interested in signing AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas and are lining up an official bid for the summer transfer window.

A new, top-class central defender is high on Antonio Conte’s transfer wish list following the departure of the Blues legendary captain John Terry.

The Bleus have enjoyed great success last season with a three-at-the-back formation but Antonio Conte has limited competition for David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta.

As per the Greek broadcaster Sport FM 94.6, the 26-year-old Kostas Manolas is near the top of the Chelsea head coach’s list of targets alongside Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci and Napoli powerhouse. Kalidou Koulibaly.

And the Stamford Bridge club will reportedly submit an official offer to AS Roma chiefs for the signature of Greece international.

The bid from the Premier League champions is expected to be worth around £42m (€48m), Sport FM 94.6 claim.

Manolas has left two more years to run on his current contract deal at the Stadio Olimpico. Roma splashed out around £11m to sign him from Olympiakos in 2014.

The Greek defender has made 45 appearances in all competitions last term for Roma, who finished second in Serie A.
