Arsenal dealt blow as Chelsea submitted £42m offer for long-term target

June 18, 2017

Chelsea are reportedly ready to submit £42million offer to land AS Roma defender and ex-Arsenal transfer target Kostas Manolas to answer Antonio Conte‘s defensive pains.

The West Londoners are known to be on the race for a new centre-half this summer after losing the captain John Terry at the end of his deal.

The Italian has been keen to land a plenty of big names, with Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly also appearing as top targets for the Italian.

But, sources in Greece now suggest Chelsea are set to attempt their luck with a big-money offer for Manolas, who has long been linked with Premier League sides.

Arsenal have been tipped as one of his biggest fans in last times, though stories earlier this term suggested he had agreed on a move to Inter Milan.

The Blues could still be in the running, however, with Greek broadcaster Sport-FM saying they’re set to table a massive offer to lure the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

The Greek star could be an ideal upgrade for a footballer like Gary Cahill in Chelsea’s defence, although Conte is also likely to be preparing more rotation options after being able to field the same side nearly every week last campaign.

However with Chelsea now in the Champions League after winning the title, the addition of quality like Manolas could be important for the club’s opportunities as they seek to challenge in three or four tournaments.

Latest speculation claims Conte wants at least four new signings and could be armed with a £250million transfer budget.
