Arsenal have to beat Man City in £30m race for 29-year-old centre-back

According to the Express, Arsenal  have to beat Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s side are planning to return for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans in January having missed out on the centre-back in the summer.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City were all interested in the Northern Ireland international during the summer transfer window, only for the West Brom to keep hold of the defender.

The same sources also suggest that both clubs have retained an interest in the former Man United defender and are preparing to battle for his signature once again when the window reopens at the turn of the year.

Pep Guardiola is keen on adding further cover at the heart of their defence having seen John Stones sidelined with injury to leave Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi as their only recognised senior centre-backs.

However, new West Bromwich manager Alan Pardew is desperate to keep Jonny Evans at The Hawthorns and will reportedly offer the 29-year-old a new deal in an attempt to convince him to stay.

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Evans, who is expected to command a fee of at least £30m
