The reports from Spanish media claim that Chelsea are lining up a club-record £71m bid for Atletico Madrid midfield star Saul Niguez.
The 22-year-old versatile star has scored one goal while assisting another for Atletico Madrid this season, and Blues head coach Antonio Conte is keen to make Niguez part of his squad.
According to the Don Balon, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has no plans to let the Spaniard leave the club.
Saul Niguez renewed his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer and now has a £134m release clause, which the Spanish side expect to be enough to fend off interest from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata became the club’s record signing this summer when the Spaniard completed £60m move from Atletico’s rivals Real Madrid.
The west London giants have spent close to £200m in total during the transfer window, with the arrivals of targets including former AS Monaco holding midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko for £40m.
Alongside Saul Niguez, Chelsea are also keeping close on another Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, who has been on the transfer radar of Antonio Conte since the Italian’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
