Chelsea’s £27m opening bid rejected as Euro giants demand £42m for Conte’s target

According to the latest transfer news, Chelsea and Monaco are £15m apart in their negotiations for Tiemoué Bakayoko with the League 1 champions rejecting the Blues’ opening bid of £27m.

Monaco value their key midfielder at closer to £42m and are under no financial pressure to sell the Frenchman.

Bakayoko has attracted interest from Manchester United this summer but the 22-year-old star has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge and wants a deal done sooner rather than later.

As per the French publication L’Equipe, Chelsea have been locked in talks with AS Monaco over the last month but the League 1 giants immediately dismissed the Blues’ first proposal.

Bakayoko’s wish to move to the club should ease further negotiations but Chelsea’s refusal to meet Monaco’s asking price at this stage is said to be infuriating Antonio Conte.

The 47-year-old former Juventus boss was unhappy with the club’s transfer business last year after they missed out on Alvaro Morata, Leonardo Bonucci and Radja Nainggolan.

The recent reports in Italy claim that Conte’s relationship with the board is at ‘breaking point’ due to the club’s lack of transfer activity.
