Wild speculation sparked amongst the brains of Napoli fans today as their new head-coach Carlo Ancelotti was spotted having a dinner in Russia with Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas.
Former Barcelona playmaker has been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge this summer and the Spanish midfielder would be a coup for Napoli.
Given the imminent departure of Brazilian-born midfielder Jorginho to Man City, for a fee believed to be in the region of €50m, signing Spanish player would make perfect sense for Italian giants.
The Naples team will miss Jorginho’s relentless passing in the midfield area and to bring in a player with the quality of Fabregas’ would show they mean business and ready to challenge for Serie A title after last season failure.
Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas himself is believed to be keen on to leave the Premier League giants after missing out on Champions League football and Napoli seems to be an ideal destination for him following the playing style and secure place in Europe’s most elite competition.
Chelsea are already in the market for new midfielder and Liverpool long-term target Nabil Fekir has been latest name to be rumoured with a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
