According to the Spanish media, Manchester United are on the verge of agreeing a transfer move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
The reports from Cadena SER claim that the deal will cost the Red Devils between £66.1m and £70.5m and could be finalised as early as Wednesday.
The transfer move will set a new record as the 24-year-old Morata will become the most expensive Spanish player in history, overtaking the £50m transfer of Fernando Torres to Chelsea back in 2011.
It is believed that Morata’s primary motivation for moving to Man United is to re-establish his importance with Spain’s national team.
The Spain international helped Los Blancos win La Liga and the Champions League this term but only started 16 matches in both competitions.
Marca have reported that Man United boss Jose Mourinho had personally called Morata ahead of the transfer where he promised the forward that he would be an ‘important’ part of the team at Old Trafford.
It has also been reported that the Spaniard has agreed a five-year contract with the Red Devils.
Morata’s agent Juanma Lopez told Calciomercato: ‘It’s a club with a lot charm, a very interesting option,’ Morata’s agent. I can say that there’s a very important offer and the decision now rests with Real.’
