According to the Sunday Express, Manchester United are moving forward with a £40m bid for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who has been linked with a departure from Vicente Calderon in the summer transfer window.
The same sources suggest that United boss Jose Mourinho wants the 24-year-old Oblak to replace David De Gea at Old Trafford, as the Spain international is expected to join Real Madrid this summer.
It is believed that the Red Devils are privately admitting defeat in their attempt to stop De Gea from joining the Champions League holders at the end of the season.
Man United have regularly scouted the Slovenia international this season and he’s No.1 on Jose Mourinho’s shortlist of replacements for De Gea. He was also on Chelsea’s radar in case Real Madrid made a move for Thibaut Courtois.
Last month, the 24-year-old Slovenian was hailed as the best goalkeeper in the world by his superstar team-mate Antoine Griezmann following his stunning triple save in Atletico Madrid’s draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
Griezmann said: It’s why we say he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. He proves it in every game and he did so again.’
