Steven Gerrard has told BT Sport that Everton midfielder Ross Barkley would thrive if he was to move to Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham want to sign Barkley in the January transfer window.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman appears to have some doubts over the 23-year-old, and he reportedly could decide to allow the attacking midfielder to leave Goodison Park.
Gerrard feels that if Everton let Barkley go it would be a mistake, but he has encouraged Spurs to make a bid.
“For sure, 100 per cent, if he was to go to a Tottenham or a Chelsea or anywhere else he would fly,” Gerrard said.
“And all the Everton fans would be saying ‘why did we sell him?’ – that’s exactly what is going to happen.”
Barkley has made 17 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, but he has only scored three times for Everton.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino reportedly still feels that the England international could enhance the quality of his attack.
Barkley would be in competition with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli if he was to move to Spurs.
As things stand, Tottenham are in fourth place in the Premier League table, while Everton are in seventh.
