According to the reports, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is planning a shock move for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho to improve United’s attacking options.
The 25-year-old Coutinho nearly left Liverpool this summer and was desperate to move to La Liga with Barcelona were the dream destination for the Brazilian.
However, the Merseyside giants refused to let him go with Jurgen Klopp always adamant the South American maestro would not be jumping ship.
Coutinho has since returned to the Liverpool fold and started their disappointing 1-1 draw with Sean Dyche’s Burnley on Saturday.
But the reports from Spanish publication Don Balon are claiming the 25-year-old playmaker has emerged as a shock target for Manchester United.
Jose Mourinho’s side have enjoyed a stunning start to the new campaign, winning three of their first four Premier League matches.
Particularly impressive has been Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is blossoming in the No.10 role after Wayne Rooney’s departure to Everton.
But Don Balon claim that has not stopped Mourinho eying Coutinho. It is believed the 54-year-old Portuguese is keen to weaken his rivals.
And poaching one of Liverpool’s best players would hurt Klopp, who did so well to keep the Brazilian this summer.
