According to Thursday’s European papers, Barcelona are in talks with a reported Liverpool target Leon Goretzka. Merseyside club have entered the race for a highly-rated Bundesliga central midfielder, who is said to favour a move to the La Liga giants over Liverpool and Juventus.
The 22-year-old Schalke star was linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club over the course of the summer and the exit never materialised.
However, Mundo Deportivo claims, that Goretzka’s agent, Jörg Neubauer, has been in Catalonia negotiating with Barcelona at least four times in recent months and a deal could be close.
Goretzka’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season and Barca are weighing whether to bring him in January transfer window or wait for the midfielder to become a free agent in the summer.
Any kind of delay over that decision, however, could see Liverpool or Juventus jump in to try and do a deal for Goretzka.
Leon Goretzka joined Schalke in summer of 2013 from Vfl Bochum for a reported €4m transfer fee. He has played in 128 games so far and scored 19 goals for the club.
