ARSENAL are the favourites to complete the signing of Man Utd centre-back Chris Smalling, according to the bookies.

Reports today suggested that Smalling and his defensive partner Phil Jones could leave the club after the end of the season with Jose Mourinho is planning massive squad overhaul.

Jose Mourinho wants to sell the Red Devils pair and reinvest the money to strengthen the pair.

And according to the bookies, the Gunners are likely to land Smalling, while Everton are favourites to lure Phil Jones at Goodison Park.

BetStars spokesman Ian Marmion said: “Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are on course to leave Old Trafford in the next transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to upgrade his current defence.

“The Red Devils manager views his backline as the weak link of a side which boasts one of the best goalkeepers in world football and has seen £75m spent on Romelu Lukaku and £89m on Paul Pogba in the last two summers.

“Everton are priced at 4/1 to be the next destination for Phil Jones, who could be offered to the Toffees as part of a deal to attract former Man Utd player Michael Keane back to the Theatre of Dreams.

“Chris Smalling could yet line up in red next season, with Arsenal the 4/1 favourites to secure his signature.”

Manchester United and Arsenal are known to have a good relationship after the swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez.
