Napoli forward and long-term Manchester United target Dries Mertens has admitted he is interested in a move to the Premier League with Jose Mourinho keen on signing the Belgian.
The 30-year-old Mertens has managed to score 34 goals in 45 matches last term and was rewarded with a new contract deal in the summer.
However, the Belgium international has a £25m release clause written into his current deal and Napoli director Pierpaolo Marino admitted last month that Manchester United had been watching the explosive winger ‘very closely’.
Napoli top the Serie A table after a remarkable start to the campaign and, while Dries Mertens says he’s happy in Naples, he’s left the door open for a move to England.
‘I’m happy in Italy and I’m fine at Napoli,’ said Mertens. ‘But maybe in the future I could come to England.’
Jose Mourinho is known to be keen on signing a creative striker and is targeting a move for Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil in January.
The Red Devils missed out on Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic last summer but Mourinho’s expected to use the international break to look over possible targets.
