Man United keeping close tabs on 24-year-old Barcelona versatile midfielder

January 28, 2018

Manchester United is linked with Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho has already completed the signing of Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez this month, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading the other way to north London.

However, according to Spanish transfer outlet Don Balon, the United boss is ready to splash the cash again.

They claim Mourinho is desperate to sign Barca midfielder Gomes and the Special One is preparing a bid for the 24-year-old.

The Portugal international has struggled to impress at the Nou Camp following his move to Barca in 2016.

Gomes has started just four La Liga games under Ernesto Valverde this time out.

Don Balon add that Mourinho knows Gomes is struggling alongside Lionel Messi and co and he’s keen to give him a lifeline in the Premier League.

Mourinho is desperate to land Gomes after giving up on Sergi Roberto and Samuel Umtiti, who topped the Special One’s transfer wish list.

However, Roberto penned a long-term contract at the Nou Camp this week, while Umtiti looks set to follow suit in the coming months.

United are back in action on Friday night when the Red Devils travel to Yeovil in the FA Cup fourth round, where new signing Sanchez could make his debut under Mourinho.

Sanchez will likely make his first Premier League appearance on January 31 when United travel to Tottenham.

The Red Devils are currently 12 points behind leaders Manchester City with 14 games remaining.
