Accoridng to the English media sources, Manchester United have already launched a £32.5m bid to sign AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas, who has been closely monitored by several European top clubs this season.
Recent reports from The Sun suggest that Man United head coach Jose Mourinho has turned his attention to the Greece international as the Red Devils’ move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof has stalled.
But the Serie A giants are reluctant to offload the 25-year-old star, meaning that Old Trafford club could pay even more to land a defender in January.
Kostas Manolas has been a regular for Roma this term, playing in all but three of the club’s Serie A fixtures so far.
Last September, the agent of Greek centre-back has revealed that Manchester United were among the clubs monitoring the defender’s progress in Italy.
Meanwhile, Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho is aiming to sign Real Madrid centre-back Pepe on a free transfer when the the current contract deal of the Portugal international at the Bernabeu runs out at the end of the term.
The 33-year-old Portuguese star is expected to leave Zinedine Zidane’s side at the end of the current season and is attracting interest from Chinese Super League.
Jose Mourinho worked with the veteran defender in Spain and, though he fell out with the former Porto star towards the end of his stint at the club, he remains a huge fan of his compatriot.
