ARSENE WENGER has confirmed that Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin will continue his career at Valencia after completing a £12m move to La Liga.
Coquelin has struggled for first-team action at Emirates Stadium this campaign making only 13 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.
Reports claimed yesterday that the French midfielder has made a move to Valencia for a reported 12m fee.
And after the goalless draw with Chelsea at Carabao Cup semi-final Wenger confirmed the midfielder’s transfer.
When asked if there was truth in the reports that Coquelin is going to Valencia, Wenger replied: “Yes.
“He goes to Valencia. He didn’t get enough games with us this season. He had an opportunity. I let him go.”
French manager went on to praise his compatriots’ spirit and determination at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Wenger added: “I felt there was great togetherness, we didn’t give many chances away.
“I am pleased with the spirit and determination.
“You want first to be solid, ideally you want to score as well. We were close a few times.”
Arsenal will play their semi-final second-leg with the Blues at the Emirates on January 24, which will be their fifth meeting this campaign.
