Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira turned down the opportunity to join Everton over the summer because the star wanted a move to the Emirates.
That’s according to CalcioMercato, quoted by Sports Witness, who claim that the German midfielder had offers from the Toffees and Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce but declined them both as Sami was hoping for a move to the Gunners.
A transfer to the Emirates, as we all know, never materialised, and the holding midfielder is now forcing his way into manager Maurizio Sarri’s plans in Turin.
Plenty of Arsenal supporters were worrying over the fact the Gunners did not add to their holding midfield ranks, however, with both Joe Willock and Matteo Guendouzi shining in the early stages, the decision to not swoop for Khedira looks to be the right one.
Lucas Torreira and club captain Granit Xhaka are also available to Unai, while Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also hoping to force his way into the Spanish manager’s central midfield ranks.
Sami would have brought plenty of experience to Arsenal, however, he also would’ve demanded a high wage, and with the player edging towards the end of his professional career, football experts and fans believe the Gunners made the right call in deciding against making a swoop for the German.
