Arsenal 23-year-old defender made return to first-team training

Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney has made his return to the training pitches ahead of Thursday’s game with Benfica in the Europe League.

The left-back has been sorely missed in recent weeks following to sustaining calf injury, which has forced him to miss last five games in the English top-tier.

Cedric Soares has done a fantastic job filling in on the left-hand side, however, Tierney has proven himself to be irreplaceable in that role and it’s a good news for the Gunners supporters to see him back on the training ground.

Arsenal recently shared a video of the first team preparing for Thursday’s Europa League last-32 first leg clash with Benfica, and Tierney was seen taking part in a small-sided match – curling a shot into the top corner for good measure.

Whether the 23-year-old will be deemed fit enough to peform against Benfica seems to be seen, however, Arteta confirmed after the victory over Leeds United that Tierney has a better chance of making a return than fellow absentee Thomas Partey does.

The ex-Celtic man has managed to found back of the net once and assisted two more in the English top-tier this season, and the Gunners will be taking on Benfica at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico following to coronavirus restrictions on travel.
