Arsenal closing in on a deal for 29-year-old South American stopper

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has confirmed that his Italian giants are still in private talks with Arsenal over a potential deal for Colombia international goalkeeper David Ospina.

The 29-year-old stopper is widely expected to leave the North London club before the end of the August, having fallen further down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium following the arrival of new goalkeeper Brand Leno.

Alex Meret has only Joined Napoli from Serie A club Udinese this summer, however, the goalkeeper broke his arm shortly after arriving at Stadio Sao Paolo, and the Italian club will sign another stopper before the August window shuts.

De Laurentiis has recently confirmed that Colombian goalkeeper Ospina and also the Merseyside Reds Simon Mignolet are both in the mix.

De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: “There are four in contention: [Guillermo] Ochoa, Mignolet, Ospina and [Ciprian] Tatarusanu. It is true that Ospina could arrive, we are negotiating, there are still some differences on the requests.”

Colombian keeper has only made 11 Premier League appearances for the Gunners over the last three campaigns.
