Arsenal desperate to sell German playmaker in January

Arsenal are allegedly set to step up their efforts to offload unwanted midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The 31-year-old has not turned out for the north Londoners since March, while he has not even made Mikel Arteta’s senior team squad for any match since the start of the 2020-21 term.

Arsenal attempted to sell the ex-Germany international over the summer, but there were no takers with the star’s contract due to expire next June.

According to talkSPORT, the London side are hoping to sell Ozil during the January transfer market but would also consider paying him off before his contract officially comes to an end.

The former Real Madrid attacking midfielder is believed to earn in excess of £350,000 per week at the Emirates Stadium but has largely struggled to justify that outlay since signing the fresh deal in early 2018.

The creative midfielder has scored 44 times and grabbed 77 assists in 254 appearances for the Gunners.
