Manchester City are interested in landing Nuno Tavares from Arsenal, according to the latest reports.

The defender signed for the Gunners from Benfica for £8m transfer fee in the summer but if the Citizens get their way, his stay at the Emirates Stadium outfit could be a short one.

According to ESPN, the Premier League champions are ‘watching’ him ahead of a potential swoop.

Pep Guardiola’s side are after a new left-back, with Benjamin Mendy suspended indefinitely and Oleksandr Zinchenko mentioned with a transfer away.

They are unlikely to swoop for the Portuguese in January but a transfer next summer is not out of the question.

The 21-year-old defender has impressed since deputising for the Scottish star Kieran Tierney at left-back.

He made his first top-flight start of the season versus Aston Villa in October, impressing during the 3-1 victory.

Tavares has thus far made 14 appearances for the north London side in total, after 41 Aguias outings.

Guardiola, meantime, has been ‘assured’ that his roster will not be ‘weakened’ in the immediate future.

The club are set to compete on several fronts once again – although a number of senior team stars have been associated with moves away.
