Arsenal have reportedly made talks with the entourage of Lyon forward Moussa Dembele over a proposed move for the centre-forward in the summer.
The French forward has been linked with a number of top European teams including Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Earlier this week it was reported that the Merseyside Reds have cooled interest in Timo Werner as they refuse to meet his release clause and Dembele seems to be a cheaper alternative.
The Gunners could be forced to sell their skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the summer transfer window if the Gabon international forward does not agree on terms over a new contract, and the North London club have supposedly made their interest in 23-year-old French forward clear amid speculation over Aubameyang’s future.
According to L’Equipe, the Gunners have been in touch with the player’s agents regarding a potential switch, however, Dembele’s price tag could potentially scupper a deal.
The report suggests that Lyon are holding out for a fee of £60m for their star player, and the Gunners have turned their attention to swap deals and securing the services of free agents given the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.
Dembele has managed to found back of the net 22 times across all competitions for Ligue 1 giants during the 2019-20 season, with top-flight football in France concluded early following the ongoing outbreak.
