Arsenal have rekindled their interest in RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku, according to the latest reports.
Nkunku was linked with the Gunners back when Unai Emery was in charge of the club.
Unai had worked with the youngster at his former sid Paris Saint-Germain and was interested for a reunion.
However, the Parisians sold Nkunku to Die Roten Bullen instead in 2019.
It has proven to be a wise transfer for the 22-year-old, who provided five goals and 13 assists in his first campaign in the Bundesliga.
Only Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller made more assists in the German top flight last term.
Now, a report from Bild (via the Metro) reports Nkunku is back on the radar of several top English sides.
The newspaper names the Gunners as one team who are keeping tabs on him.
Improving their midfield was an important task for the Gunners in the summer transfer window.
They purchased Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid to do just that but failed to get a proposed deal over the line for another target, Houssem Aouar.
The Lyon playmaker remains on the agenda, but the Gunners have now identified Nkunku as another option.
However, Die Roten Bullen have a strong negotiating position, as the star is under contract until 2024.
Therefore, the club’s management have set a €40m asking price for Nkunku.
Arsenal are unlikely to make a swoop for either Aouar or Nkunku until next summer when midfielder Mesut Ozil will no longer be on the books after his deal expires.
