Arsenal are reportedly ready to do battle with Man City and Liverpool for the services of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.
Despite the fact that the Gunners are expected to be working with a severely-restricted transfer budget in the summer, head-coach Mikel Arteta is believed to be planning massive squad overhaul this summer.
The North London club head-coach has supposedly identified the defence as a priority area to strengthen his team ahead of the 2020-21 season, however, Carlos’s hefty price tag could hinder a swoop for Brazilian centre-back who has been in stunning form for Sevilla this season.
According to The Telegraph, Sevilla may be prepared to lower their price tag for Carlos, who currently possesses a £68m release clause, however, the La Liga outfit will demand £50m for the Brazilian defender.
The report suggests that the Gunners could sanction the sales of out-of-favour midfield duo Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi to aid their pursuit of Carlos, however, the North London club would have to fend off interest from Man City and Liverpool to land the highly sought-after defender.
Carlos chalked up 35 La Liga games for Sevilla in the most recent season, as Julen Lopetegui’s team finished fourth in the La Liga table and secure spot in the Champions League.
