Arsenal favourites to sign 27-year-old Real Betis midfielder

Real Betis playmaker Guido Rodriguez has reportedly emerged as a surprise top transfer target for Arsenal.

With Granit Xhaka potentially joining Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos in dropping out of the Gunners’ team for the next campaign, Mikel Arteta is in need of reinforcements in the middle of the pitch.

According to Marca, the Gunners head-coach is interested in securing the services of Guido Rodriguez to the Emirates Stadium over the coming weeks.

Having enjoyed a strong season with Betis in the Spanish top-tier, the 27-year-old is now making a positive impression with Argentina at the Copa America.

While Betis have little interest in parting ways with a player who still has three years left before his current deal expires, they may wish to strengthen their financial position with the sale of one of their star men.

Guido Rodriguez cost just £2.7m when Real Betis signed him from Club America at the beginning of 2020.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is set to sign for Bundesliga club Stuggart for a sum of around £7 million.

The Greek centre-half joined the Gunners three years ago from PAS Giannina after a recommendation from ex-transfer guru Sven Mislintat.

He managed just eight Premier League appearances for Arsenal but the star impressed supporters with his dedicated displays and it was hoped that a loan stint with Stuggart would aid the Greece international’s development.

However, manager Mikel Arteta made it clear that he saw no future for the ace at the Emirates Stadium and claim he is on the verge of completing a £7 million move to the German club.
