Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in signing Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Serbia international has been on the radar of the two teams for a while. And, his complicated contract extension situation at Lazio is seen as a chance by the two teams.
Sergej’s current deal at Lazio ends in the summer of 2024. The next few months are very important for the Serie A club and Milinkovic-Savic. They are trying to pen down a deal but the two sides are not on the same page as of now. The release clause is creating complications and there might be a window for the PL teams to enter the race for his signature.
Lazio are desperate to extend his deal but if a deal is not agreed they would want to sell him in the summer of 2023 rather than letting him leave as a free agent in the following year. The Serbian playmaker joined Lazio back in 2015 from Genk.
Since his arrival in Italy, the 27-year-old midfielder has featured in over 300 games for Lazio. The Serbian has played over 250 games in Serie A over the years. In the ongoing campaign, Sergej has played 28 games for the Italian club and has been directly involved in 14 goals.
The Serbian playmaker will be a great signing to any team that manages to get his signature. As far as the Gunners are concerned, signing him adds depth to their midfield. It will allow the Spanish manager the luxury to rotate footballers. It will help Arsenal challenge for every possible silverware.
