Arsenal made an offer of €18 million for the Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis, which was rejected by Club Brugge during the last summer transfer market, it has been stated in Germany.

The Gunners were mentioned with a move for the Nigerian star in the summer of 2020, with Dennis catching the eye following a great 2019/20 term in both the Jupiler Pro League and the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal’s league rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United, were also stated to have been keen on snapping up the player ahead of the current campaign, but the attacker remained at the Belgian club until the recently concluded winter window.

Emmanuel currently plies his trade in Germany at Bundesliga club Koln on a six-month loan deal, but it appears Dennis had an opportunity to transfer to England last summer.

According to German outlet Sport Bild, Arsenal lodged a bid of €18m for the striker’s signature during the 2020 summer transfer period.

However, Club Brugge turned down the proposal from the north London heavyweights and kept hold of the player.

But Emmanuel struggled to clock up minutes at the Jan Breydel Stadium owing to a bad run of form and differences between the management and himself in the first half of the current campaign.

And the highly-rated player ultimately left Belgium for German football in January, albeit on a temporary basis.

Emmanuel has already started two top-flight games for Koln as the star seeks to recapture his form with regular minutes under his belt. All Rights Reserved 2019
