Arsenal are fighting with several clubs for 16-year-old defender Iker San Vicente, according to reports.
The Osasuna teenager has yet to sign a long-term deal with the club and could be available on a free transfer in January.
The Mirror claims San Vicente’s decision to reject a new Osasuna deal has put some major European teams on red alert ahead of the winter transfer window.
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal will battle it out with Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus for San Vicente’s signature.
San Vicente is regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Spain. He likened to Barcelona defender Gerard Pique with his height and his ability to play the ball out of defence.
Arsenal have signed some young Spanish players over the years. Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin, John Toral, Ignasi Miquel, Julio Plegezuelo and Fran Merida all joined the club as teenagers, though only two of them became Arsenal regular players.
Pique left Spain as a teenager and joined Manchester United. He struggled to settle in England and returned to Barcelona in the summer of 2009, where he became one the world’s best defenders.
San Vicente has yet to make a first-team appearance for Osasuna, who are currently playing in Spain’s second division after relegation from La Liga last season.
