Arsenal in danger to lose German stopper this summer

Bernd Leno has opened the door to a summer departure from Arsenal, with contract discussions yet to begin between the German and the board.

He has established himself as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice shot-stopper, appearing in all but one of Arsenal’s Premier League games this season.

Leno’s form for the club has also earned him call-ups to the German national side, but with his existing contract expiring in June 2023, negotiations between him and the club should be imminent.

The shot-stopper though has revealed that those talks haven’t yet begun, but insisted he is not concerned.

“No, not yet,” he said when quizzed if he had begun contract discussions with the Gunners.

“At this moment it’s not the time to speak about the future. I know that I still have two years left and I’m also 29, for a goalkeeper that is not too old.”

Leno has also revealed that he would be prepared to leave the Gunners.

“I’ve still some years to go. I’m very happy in the club. I don’t know what will come in the future. I’m open for everything: for a new adventure or to stay at Arsenal,” the former Bayer Leverkusen ace said.

“But, like I said, at the moment I don’t think about my future because two years are still a long time. At the moment there are no conversations with the club or something else.”
