Arsenal are leading the race to land Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to the latest reports.
The Gunners have stepped up their rumoured pursuit for the 22-year-old after manager Unai Emery received a tip-off from the fellow countryman and the former Gunner Santi Cazorla.
Santi personally recommended Torres to his former team following his sublime spell of form in his native Spain.
The Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester City have also been connected to him, but 90min.com claim the north Londoners are at the front of the queue.
Manager Unai Emery is desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements in spite of signing David Luiz and William Saliba in the summer transfer market.
But the 22-year-old star will not come cheap after the Yellow Submarine pinned him down with a new five-year contract earlier this month.
He now has an exit clause of between £43 million and £65 – but the Gunners management will be hoping to snap him up for less.
Pau has cemented his spot in the Spanish side’s starting eleven and has played every minute of their La Liga campaign so far.
He spent last term out on loan with Villarreal’s fellow Spanish side Malaga – where he scored one goal in 40 matches across all competitions.
Meantime, SunSport exclusively revealed that Gunners are keen to snap up Scunthorpe youngster midfielder Joey Dawson and the club have reportedly got their eye on highly-rated La Havre AC sensation Tom Cadoche.
