The PL trio of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all chasing signature of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar with a summer transfer in mind, with Real Madrid and Juventus also keen on the rising star.

The 21-year-old ace has been a regular in the Lyon midfield for the last three terms, already racking up 133 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 24 goals.

Aouar is yet to make his debut for his country’s national team but has been a regular for the U21 side over the last three years, making 16 appearances.

Considering the interest from a number of the continent’s biggest clubs, and the fact his contract runs until June 2023 at Lyon, Houssem could cost as much as £65 million this summer, according to the Sun.

The youngster, who is playing for his hometown club, has earned praise from the biggest names in the football already.

Lionel Messi said of Aouar: ‘He is always calm with the ball at his feet with an excellent technical quality.’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has also been happy to make his admiration of the talent public, stopping Aouar in the tunnel after the Citizens drew 2-2 with Lyon in the Champions League in November 2018.

Now at Spurs, Tanguy Ndombele was attracting a lot of attention at Les Gones at the time, but Guardiola singled out Houssem for praise.

‘Houssem Aouar is a very good player, he is incredible,’ the Spaniard said after that draw in France.

‘We talk a lot about Ndombele but Aouar is also excellent. He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.’

There looks likely to be an intense battle for the star’s signature this summer as big clubs in Spain, Italy and England try to tempt him their way.

Lyon, currently seventh in Ligue 1, are bracing themselves for bids for Aouar and another young star, Moussa Dembele, in the summer who has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United.
