Arsenal on the verge to agree £29.8m deal for creative playmaker

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a €35m (£29.8m) contract to bring Real Madrid midfielder, Martin Odegaard, back to the Emirates.

The Norway skipper has enjoyed a positive six-month loan spell last season with the Gunners – scoring two goals while assisting in 20 games – and the North London giants have been keen to land him on a permanent basis all summer long.

After Odegaard was left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s team to face Alaves in Saturday’s La Liga game, the midfielder’s agents reportedly flew to London to discuss a possible transfer to Arsenal.

Now, The Athletic claims that the Gunners are ‘close’ to welcoming 22-year-old midfielder back to the club, and Odegaard missed Real Madrid training on Tuesday in anticipation of a potential transfer within days.

The report adds that the Los Blancos will sanction a sale for under £30m, and should the details be finalised quickly, the Norwegian skipper could be announced in time to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The former Stromsgodset star signed for the Los Blancos at the age of 16 in 2015, however, has only played 11 games for the senior team, and his current deal at the Bernabeu is set to run out in 2023.
