Mohamed Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are both considering leaving the Gunners in January, according to the reports.

The pair have both struggled for game time this campaign, with Egyptian midfielder, Mohamed Elneny playing only 45 minutes in the Premier League and Maitland-Niles starting only one game thus far.

Maitland-Niles, 24, looked set to depart from the Emirates Stadium in the summer, however, Mikel Arteta blocked a deadline day loan move to Everton.

According to The Sun, the two players may now state their desire to depart from the club in the new year in search of a regular first-team football.

However, the report adds that the Gunners are keen to keep both players – Maitland-Niles in particular because Arteta will be short of midfield cover in January when Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are away at the African Cup of Nations.

Swiss midfielder, Granit Xhaka’s injury, which is believed to rule him out until February at the earliest, also leaves the North London giants needing more options in the middle of the park, although Albert Sambi Lokonga has been a regular since signing from Belgian outfits, Anderlecht in the summer.
