Arsenal plotting January move for £23m Dortmund first-team star

Arsenal have reportedly identified Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Julian Brandt as a potential transfer target in the winter transfer window.

The North London club have struggled for goals this campaign, finding the back of the net just 15 times in 15 games – three of which came against Chelsea on Saturday.

That was the first time the Gunners had scored more than once in a Premier League match since October 4, leading the teams board to look at bringing in a creative midfielder in the winter transfer window.

Mesut Ozil stays exiled from the first-team squad under Mikel Arteta, while the Gunners have also been strongly linked with a move for Lyon’s playmaker, Houssem Aouar.

However, The Athletic claims that Brandt has now emerged as a possible transfer target, despite only starting six Bundesliga games this season.

The 24-year-old playmaker has only joined German giants for around £23m in 2019, however, has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot this campaign, contributing one goal and one assist in 22 games across all competitions.

The Gunners currently sit 14th in the Premier League standing, having lost eight of their 15 games so far this campaign and making changes in January is necessary.
