Done Deal: Arsenal complete €40m signing of 22-year-old Porto’s midfielder

Arsenal have finalised the signing of Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira from Porto.

The move was officially announced by the Gunners’ online store, Arsenal Direct after the team agreed a €40m (£34.4m) deal to bring the 22-year-old playmaker to the Emirates Stadium from his homeland.

Arsenal’s announcement soon followed, in which they confirmed that Vieira had signed a ‘long-term deal’ at the Emirates Stadium, which is believed to be a five-year contract.

Portuguese giants, revealed last week that a deal was in place for Vieira to join the Gunners and the Portuguese champions will receive an upfront fee of €35m (£30m).

Vieira wear No.21 jersey at Emirates Stadium, which was previously worn by Calum Chambers before his January exit to Aston Villa.

Speaking to arsenal.com after Vieira’s capture, technical director Edu said: “We’re so pleased to have completed the signing of Fabio from FC Porto. Fabio is a player with special qualities who is comfortable with the ball in the final third of the pitch.

“We are all looking forward to working with him and enjoying his future contribution to Arsenal. We will now continue to work hard and are looking forward to finishing this transfer window as strongly possible.”

Manager Arteta added: “I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play.

“We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.”

During his announcement video, Portuguese midfielder spoke of his pride at playing for a “huge and historic club”, saying: “I’ve always admired the way Arsenal play.

“There are many players who I remember well from over the years: Dennis Bergkamp, Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla, and Thierry Henry. Arsenal are a huge and historic club. I’m so happy to be here, and I couldn’t be prouder.”

Deal to be announced soon: Arsenal reached verbal agreement to sign South American No.9 forward

Arsenal have verbally agreed a deal to secure services of Manchester City centre-forward Gabriel Jesus, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The South American forward has been at the top of the Gunners’ list to replace Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the former of whom the Gunners failed to replace in January.

Eddie Nketiah has committed himself to a new five-year deal after ending the 2021-22 campaign strongly, however, the Gunners have always been expected to secure the services of a big name in the final third this summer.

Jesus only has one year left to run on his Etihad deal, however, the Citizens have been driving a hard bargain for his services and are believed to be holding out for a £50m fee.

However, speaking to the Football Terrace, Jacobs believes that a verbal agreement is in place between the two teams, and Brazilian forward could be an Arsenal player by the end of the month.

“With Jesus, Arsenal remain the frontrunners and I think that signing is very likely,” Jacobs explained.

“Jesus, as I understand it from sources close to the player, is very much sold under the Arteta and Arsenal strategy, and by strategy I mean they’ve sold that move to him based upon a focal point in the team and that is in stark contrast to Manchester City, where he was rotated and his game time was limited.

“So that’s the selling point that Arsenal will give him regular game time. He’ll be the first name on the team sheet and the terms will probably see him earn around £220,000 a week.

“Manchester City essentially want £45m as a base fee, maybe a little bit extra if you count the add-ons that are likely to be guaranteed.

“I don’t think Arsenal have now got any problem negotiating a fee with Manchester City and I don’t think they’ve got too much of an issue finalising the bits and bobs in terms of the package with Jesus, talks are ongoing in that respect, it’s a big week as far as negotiations are concerned and Arsenal have no reason to believe they won’t get the deal done.

“I think that deal of Jesus to Arsenal is now highly, highly likely and will probably be completed over the next seven to ten days.”

Arsenal and Newcastle United eyeing move for £25.8m-rated Serie A star

Newcastle United and Arsenal are reportedly at the head of the queue for Napoli midfield star Fabian Ruiz.

The 26-year-old Spaniard has enjoyed another fine campaign under the tutelage of Luciano Spalletti with seven goals and five assists in 38 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 season.

Eleven of Ruiz’s contributions came in 32 Serie A games, as the Spaniard helped Italian giants finish nine points clear of Juventus in third place, securing a place in the Champions League zone.

However, Ruiz is about to enter the final 12 months of his current deal with the Partenopei, who could therefore be pressured into a cut-price deal in the coming weeks.

A fee of £25.8m will supposedly be enough to prise the Spaniard away from Serie A giants as they aim to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2023.

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the Magpies still hold a firm interest in Ruiz after seeing a £42m move for the midfielder turned down during the winter transfer window.

However, the Gunners are also believed to be at the head of the queue to secure services of Ruiz and will have the advantage of European football in talks with the ex-Real Betis man.

The North London giants have already strengthen their midfield during the current transfer window, with Fabio Vieira’s arrival from Portuguese giants, Porto on a five-year contract being confirmed on Tuesday.

Leicester City’s playmaker Youri Tielemans was believed to be a prime target for the engine room, however, the Gunners have reportedly cooled their interest in the Belgian while they focus on other targets.

Mikel Arteta’s side are prioritising a deal for  Gabriel Jesus before strengthening other areas, which could open the door for another interested party to make a move for Ruiz.

The Spain international commanded a £27m fee when he arrived from La Liga outfits, Real Betis for Napoli back in 2018, and he has gone on to found back of the net 22 times and provided 15 assists in 166 games for the Partenopei.
