Arsenal set to cool interest in signing of 21-year-old defender after season ending injury

Serie A champions, Juventus have been dealt a massive blow after centre-back Merih Demiral was ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a serious knee injury.

While the defender has recently been rumoured with a move to Arsenal and Leicester City, the 21-year-old has just broken into Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI.

However, the Turkey international will play no further part this season after rupturing his ACL in Serie A champions fixture with Roma on Sunday evening.

The 21-year-old defender is now expected to be sidelined until the weeks before the start of next campaign, ruling out him of playing for his country at Euro 2020.

Arsenal and Leicester City will also have to turn their attentions elsewhere as they keen on to strengthen their backline in January.

Meanwhile, Serie A giants AC Milan have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to secure services of Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

The 31-year-old defender continues to be rumoured with a move away from the Allianz Arena, having struggled to secure a regular starting spot at the club during the first half of the 2019-20 season.

The Gunners are believed to have recently approached the German champions to discuss a potential move for the world-cup winning defender before the end of the month.

The North London club are allegedly open to securing the services of the centre-back on a permanent deal, however, it is believed that a loan move could also take place during this month.
