Arsenal set to hijack Man Utd move for 25-year-old Wolves midfield star

Arsenal, Barcelona and Man United will all pull the plug on their respective pursuits of Wolves star Ruben Neves due to the club’s asking price. Wolverhampton are reportedly demanding a massive £75m transfer fee for the 25-year-old midfielder.

Ruben joined Wolves in a reported £15m move from Porto in 2017. Neves helped the club gain promotion to the PL and has since been a vital part of the Wolverhampton set-up as they have successfully managed to maintain their top-flight status in the last four years.

Portugal international has played 212 games for Wolverhampton around all tournaments thus far, scoring 22 goals and assisting another 10. With only two years remaining on his current deal with the club and there have been no reports of potential renewal.

The Portuguese midfielder has thus been the subject of intense transfer speculation as the footballer is currently at the peak of his powers. His ability to dictate play from the midfield while shielding the back-line, as well as his set-piece prowess, make him an exciting prospect.

Arsenal, Man United and Barcelona were all tracking the Portuguese. However, a move now seems out of the question. The interested sides believe the former Porto midfielder should not cost more than £45m and are now prepared to walk away from the deal due to Wolverhampton’s exorbitant demands.

Man United, meanwhile, are closing on a move for de Jong but had been following Ruben Neves as a potential replacement for Nemanja Matic.
