Arsenal are considering the possibility of strengthening their defensive options by launching a shock move for Man City defender John Stones.
The North London club’s season has been plagued by inconsistent defending, and they are currently sitting tenth in the Premier League table conceding 31-goals in 22 games.
The summer addition of David Luiz has done little to strengthen their defensive end, though the men from the Emirates have kept two clean sheets after the arrival of Mikel Arteta.
Now, a report from the Sun claims that John Stones could be a shock short-term remedy to the North London club’s defensive ailments via the loan route.
The 25-year-old has struggled with poor form and injuries in the current season, playing only 14 games in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The article reveals that this inconsistent game-time could force former Everton man to depart from Etihad Stadium.
Stones would undoubtedly represent an upgrade for Mikel Arteta’s backline, and the Sun report claims that both the player and head-coach share the same agency and it could help the Gunners to get the deal done.
Addng more credence to the story, a source in the report is quoted as saying:
“He was in London to see his agent last week and is due back again this week.
“He knows if he is to resurrect his England career he has to get more time on the pitch.
“Arteta is in need of defenders so it could be perfect for both of them.”
