Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is stepping up his quest for further reinforcements at the club this summer with the club allegedly making a ‘declaration of intent’ to sign Sporting Lisbon talent Nuno Mendes.

According to a recent report by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, the north Londoners are contemplating a bid for the 18-year-old defender, who impressed in his nine appearances in the Liga NOS last term.

However, the north London side are facing competition to land the left-back from AC Milan, who are also tracking the progress of the sensation.

Arsenal are on the race for a back-up for Kieran Tierney, with Sead Kolasinac set to leave the club this transfer window.

Kolasinac is keen on a return to Germany because of ‘private reasons’ and Schalke are eyeing up a move to re-sign the Bosnia international.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are in pole position to land Thomas Partey this transfer window.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder has allegedly rejected a new contract from the LaLiga club and Marca claim that manager Diego Simeone is resigned to losing the player.

The Gunners have been chasing Thomas all summer but Atletico have not budged on the £45 million exit clause. Partey is a boyhood Gunners fan and has spoken publicly about his willingness to play in England one day.

According to The Athletic, the Ghana international was desperate to join what was then Unai Emery’s side last year, but the club were unwilling to fork out the exit fee.
