Arsenal tried to sign 21-year-old South American attacker in January

Arsenal reportedly chose not to sign a new attacker in the January transfer market, instead prioritising an attacking midfielder in Martin Odegaard.

The north Londoners may look to the transfer window for more attacking firepower in the summer depending on their contract rebel Folarin Balogun’s future, but one target has evaded them.

Sao Paulo sensation Brenner has been on the Gunners’ radar of late, and it looked like Arsenal senior figure Edu had real hope of luring his fellow countryman to the Emirates Stadium.

The Daily Mail noted in last year’s November that Arsenal were looking to land Brenner, especially as the player has an Italian passport – drawing comparisons to fellow prodigy Gabriel Martinelli.

Brenner has been brilliant in Sao Paulo’s senior team, smashing 17 goals in 33 matches to become a hot prospect at the age of just 21.

If the English giants were waiting until the summer to bring him in, then they have waited too long as a surprise team have confirmed his signature.

Major League Soccer outfit FC Cincinnati have confirmed that the South American ace has joined as their new Young Designated Player, forking out around $13 million (£9.4 million) for his services.

Orange and Blue are one of the newer MLS clubs and have little success to speak of thus far, but do have a big-name head coach in ex-Manchester United star Jaap Stam.

Brenner joins the likes of Makohelo Mokotjo, Jurgen Locadia and Yuya Kubo as a key man at West End Stadium.
