AS Roma handed chance to sign 26-year-old Arsenal defender

Arsenal misfit Calum Chambers has allegedly been offered to the Serie A giants Roma as the north Londoners seek to part ways with the player.

The defender moved above now-Arsenal loanee Hector Bellerin in the pecking order last campaign but has been demoted to a bench role following the arrival of the Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 26-year-old star is due to become a free agent next year’s summer transfer window, but the Arsenal management are supposedly interested in garnering a fee for him before Calum walks away on a free transfer in 2022.

According to a report from an Italian sports newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport – via media outlet Football Italia – intermediaries have offered the Gunners man to I Giallorossi, but the Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho is not convinced by the transfer.

The report goes on to state that the former Premier League head coach instead wants to prioritise a reported deal for Manchester United outcast Diogo Dalot, and the Serie A giants are not willing to engage in talks with Chambers’ entourage.

Chambers has netted five goals and set up 10 more in 121 matches for the capital outfit but hasn’t made the squad for their last seven PL fixtures.
