AS Roma made fresh move for Man Utd £22.4m-rated defender

Serie A giants, AS Roma, have reportedly made a fresh approach to Man United in an attempt to secure services of Chris Smalling at least for one more year.

The 30-year-old has spent the entire 2019-20 season with the Serie A hints so far, however, is currently due to return to his parent team when the season ends in the Italian top-tier in August.

AS Roma are keen to keep him at the team beyond that date after being impressed by his form, however, they are unwilling to commit to a permanent contract and are only interested for another loan spell.

Football Italia claims that the capital outfit are readying an approach which would see England international defender spend the 2020-21 campaign on loan, with an option to make his mover permanent for €15m (£13.4m) next summer.

Italian giants would reportedly pay the Red Devils a £2.5m loan fee to push the transfer through, and would hand the 30-year-old defender a four-year contract if they were to trigger the permanent option.

However, the 20-times English champions are believed to be holding out for a permanent deal worth €25m (£22.4m) for Smalling, who has played 32 games for AS Roma across all competitions this campaign.
