AS Roma on the brink to agree deal for Man Utd defender

Chris Smalling is training on his own at Man United today as the team negotiate his departure with the Giallorossi. England international was absent from Red Devils training on Tuesday and Wednesday as he held discussions over his future with the Serie A giants pressing for him to come back after his successful loan in Italy last campaign.

The Norwegian boss has left the door open for Chris but it has been clear that he is not considered the first choice to partner Harry Maguire despite the centre-back’s form over the past year earning rave reviews.  Giallorossi pursuit has been an ongoing saga as they try to add Smalling with a very limited budget.

Red Devils have an array of defenders but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still wants a better one to play alongside captain Harry Maguire. Dayot Upamecano has been discussed but RB Leipzig insists France international will remain for another campaign.

Jones and Tuanzebe are injured while Lindelof was left out of Sweden’s midweek international due to ‘fatigue’. The Norwegian manager has Bailly too while Rojo has returned from his loan in Argentina. The English defender wants to play regular football and the decision now rests with Red Devils if they can reach a suitable accord with the Italian club.
