Aston Villa set to turn down Liverpool approach for 25-year-old playmaker

Aston Villa will reportedly turn down any approaches that might arrive for their midfield force John McGinn this summer, amid reports that Liverpool are interested in the Scotland international.

McGinn has enjoyed a stunning 2020-21 season for Dean Smith’s side, founding back of the net three times and providing six assists in 37 Premier League games.

The Merseyside Red are believed to be considering a move for the midfielder, as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who has departed from Anfield as a free agent and joined Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

However, according to the Express & Star, Dean Smith’s side have no interest in allowing the Scot to depart from the club during this summer’s transfer window and will rebuff any offers.

McGinn still has more than four years left on his current deal at Aston Villas, who are allegedly open to selling Jack Grealish ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

Grealish continues to be rumoured with Manchester City and Manchester United, and the Englishman’s agents are believed to be confident that a £100m deal will go through after Euro 2020.

Liverpool barely finished last season on top four in the Premier League and adding quality players could be their priority in the summer.
