Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid have reportedly stolen a march on Man United in the race to secure the services of AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu.
The Turkey international attacker has starred for the in-form Italian giants during the early stages of the 2020-21 season, founding back of the net four times and providing four assists in all competitions.
However, the 26-year-old attacker is out of contract at San Siro next season and has been strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford, while their Premier League rivals Arsenal have also been credited with an interest.
The 20-times English champions may be set to face even stiffer competition for Calhanoglu’s services now, though, as Mundo Deportivo claims that Atletico Madrid are now the frountrunners to sign the Turkey international.
The report suggests that AC Milan are attempting to negotiate fresh contract with the midfielder, with an annual salary of €3.5m (£3.1m) on the table, however, Calhanoglu is holding out for a wage of €7m (£6.2m).
As a result, Italian giants are supposedly open to selling former Bayer Leverkusen star in January in order to avoid losing him for free next season, with Inter Milan and Juventus also believed to be keeping a close tabs on his progress.
