Atletico Madrid are reportedly looking at Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette to replace the Spain international Diego Costa after the Spanish side decided to terminate his contract last week.
Alexandre is Arsenal’s top scorer this campaign but has put in mixed displays since coming to the Emirates.
Diego Simeone has been a huge fan of the Frenchman since his time at the Ligue 1 club Lyon, but could never get a deal over the line for the attacker.
Now with Diego off their books, Los Rojiblancos are a man short in the striker department, with Luis Suarez being the only recognized striker in the squad.
According to Italian journalist Ciro Venerato, Diego has asked the Atletico Madrid senior figures to find a replacement for the player as soon as possible.
The club has been linked with swoops for Napoli’s Arkiadusz Milik and Leeds United’s Rodrigo, but there has not been anything concrete yet.
Speaking to Kiss Kiss Napoli, Ciro said: “Simeone has asked Andrea Berta to be quick because he needs a striker. They evaluate other profiles, the latest being Lacazette. Loren Moron was offered, as well as Origi.”
Arsenal have found it difficult to score goals all season, as the club have been stuck in the bottom half of the top-flight. Alexandre would be a huge loss to Mikel Arteta’s team, as the French star has been the Gunners’ top scorer in all competitions this season.
With the Gabonese star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggling to find his goal-scoring form, they will be relying on Alexandre to shoulder the burden.
