Barcelona are reportedly keeping a close tabs on Jorginho’s current situation at Stamford Bridge.

The 30-year-old midfield destroyer is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season and will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign teams in January.

Jorginho is facing a competition for places in Chelsea’s midfield, with Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher all vying for starting berths.

Carney Chukwuemeka also arrived from Aston Villa this summer, however, Jorginho has remained a vital player for Chelsea with starts in five Premier League appearances from six so far this season.

Having spent £51.3m to lure the Italy international away from Serie A Napoli in 2018, Chelsea are now at risk of losing Italy’s international midfielder on a free transfer, and he is not expected to be short of offers in 2023.

According to The Sun, Spanish giants, Barcelona are hoping to strike a deal for Jorginho if he becomes a free agent as have identified him as a perfect replacement to Busquets.

Busquets will turn 35 next summer and is also set to become a free agent at the end of 2022/23 season, and Xavi supposedly accepts that the veteran will soon need a successor.

During his four-year spell at Stamford Bridge, Jorginho has scored 27 goals and provided nine assists in 196 appearences for the West London club, winning a total of four trophies in that time.
