Barcelona offered Liverpool chance to sign €165,000 a-week midfielder

Liverpool have reportedly been offered the chance to secure the services of Philippe Coutinho on a free transfer from Barcelona.

The Brazilian forward swapped Merseyside for Spanish giants for a nine-figure sum in January 2018, however, his two-and-a-half-year stint at Nou Camp has been underwhelming.

Coutinho was handed a new lease of life at the start of the 2020-21 campaign under Ronald Koeman, however, a serious knee injury ruled him out for the second half of the campaign, and the Catalan giants are believed to be open to offers.

According to AS, Barca still owe Liverpool £50m from Coutinho’s move to Camp Nou, and the club are therefore exploring the possibility of letting the South American re-sign for the Reds for free in order to write off the debt.

The report suggests that the Brazilian playmaker is still admired by those in the Merseyside Reds dressing room, however, his recent injury woes could lead Anfield chiefs to think twice about re-signing him.

With the 28-year-old still rehabilitating from his knee injury, interested teams will reportedly have to wait until July before luring him away from Nou Camp.

Liverpool despite pure 2020/21 season managed to secure place in the next season of the Champions League with a final-day victory against Crystal Palace.
