German champions are now expected to cash in on the 28-year-old versatile defender early in the New Year to avoid losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

Football Insider reports that defending Premier League champions, have made their interest known, having already lost Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season and now fellow centre-back Joe Gomez could be out for several months.

Alaba, comfortable playing in the heart of backline, is believed to be interested in securing a new challenge elsewhere and a move to Liverpool is on the cards and Jurgen Klopp sees him as an ideal addition following his versatility.

However, the Premier League champions may face stiff competition from the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona.
